We had a busy week with the Scholastic Book Fair on Tuesday and K.I.S.S (Kids Invite Someone Special) on Wednesday and Thursday. It was great to see so many families/friends in the building! Also, thank you to everyone who responded to send in donations for our Sweet Treat Celebration. If you sent in a paper, you can send in the items at any time! Thank you!
This week in...
Reading - We continued our nonfiction interactive notebook as we learned about order and sequence, problem and solution, cause and effect, and chronological order. Students were able to make connections to timelines in social studies when it came to putting events in chronological order.
Writing - Our spelling focus was on oo as in good. The mentor sentence this week was a complex sentence from Grandpa's Teeth. The main focus on this sentence was on conjunctions as well as capitalizing proper nouns. We also continued to work on our nonfiction animal reports. Students have typed up their facts using headings and some have been able to move on to learning how to insert a sidebar.
Math - We compared fractions using the same denominators, same numerators, fraction strips, benchmarks, and number lines. As a reminder, the last day to complete Sweet Treats is Thursday, March 12th! Our celebration will be on Friday!
Science - We continued matter, discussing the properties of solids, liquids, and gases as well as physical changes. Students took a "quiz" over what they learned.
Social Studies - Week 16 focused on civic responsibility at home, at school, in the community, and within The United States. We completed a responsibility web together as a class.
